Wellingborough & Rushden Tories Look A Gift Horse In The Mouth

Before I forget, Happy New year to all readers of the Northants Patriot. 2013 looks like it will be a very interesting year indeed with the local County Council elections in May with a reduced number of councillors, 57 from the previous 73…I can see a few more pairs of shoes may be needed to cope with the extra legwork!

The war of words between Northampton MP’s and elected officials in Wellingborough and Rushden continue about the proposed Rushden Lakes Scheme over Eric Pickles desk. Ask any politician in Wellingborough and Rushden and they’ll tell you it is what the local people want…well, it isn’t. I would have no objection if the  £50m being invested in this out of town shopping complex was being invested to regenerate Rushden or Wellingborough Town Centres, and I find it hard to understand why the local Conservatives are so keen for this project to be steamrollered through when it is going to have a serious negative impact on several local town centres.

It is even stranger when Conservatives elsewhere in the county can see a massive con when it lands in the planning department table, no doubt the Labour Party in Corby will be bigging this one up as the saviour of the town, but it will make it the rubbish dump of the county if given the go ahead. Given Corby Borough Council’s history with recycling and waste management, it may be wise for this plan to never see the light of day.

One Response to Wellingborough & Rushden Tories Look A Gift Horse In The Mouth

  1. Roy Davies says:

I look forward with dread to this proposed development which would blight a large part of Corby and turn us into the rubbish tip of the county. To be fair Cllr. Rob McKella and a few others have spoken against this idea but Corby is run by an elected Labour dictatorship so I am sure it will happen. At the risk of being repetitive I have to say that as long as Corby continues to elect a party with a proven track record of failure and disregard for the towns welfare then the electorate must suffer the consequences of its own actions in the polling booths.
