In an article in the Guardian today Nigel Farage yet again misleads not only the public, but also his fellow party members. The paper states:
He is, however, proud of a unique condition he has imposed on membership; “We are the only UK political party that bars you from becoming a member, let alone an officer or candidate, if you have ever been involved with the BNP.”
Mr Farage is lying. Firstly, UKIP do not know who has and who has not been a member of the BNP. Yes I know there are leaked lists out there, some of people who have genuinely been members, and others of names of people who had just made an enquiry at some point, but the fact of the matter is nobody in UKIP cannot be certain who was, or is, a member of the BNP, and secondly, I know for a fact that there are members of UKIP who have been past members of the BNP, I also know of three people in Northamptonshire alone that held memberships simultaneously of both Parties! Whether they still do or not I cannot say and would not even if I knew. I can understand wanting the soundbites to be consistent, but as usual he his full of bluster and bravado with little of substance.
It’ll be interesting to see what will happen to the English Defence League over the next few months after their leader Stephen Lennon was imprisoned for 10 months for using a friends passport to enter the USA. The plan seems very basic and if this has been figured out by the EDL, I think we can all be thankful that that we have seen no serious terrorist attacks in the skies between the UK and USA.
On a more local issue, the English Democrats will be holding a meeting on the 16th January to discuss plans for the Northamptonshire County Council Elections which are due to take place in May. If there are any people sympathetic towards the English Democrats that would like to know more about the party, join and stand in future elections please contact the County’s Development officer Kevin on Northamptonshire@EngDem.org. or drop me a message and I will pass it on.
